The Old Man, The Twins, The Moment of Lightning

The anciently beautiful man paused for a moment, clearing his throat.

“One of you must play the villain,” he declared, invoking suspense and wonder. The deep mystery redolent in his visage silently demanded that the two before him must decide, together.

The twins looked at each other for a moment, nodded, and one hand rose high. The old man smiled.

“Embrace!” he commanded — and they did, giggling.

There was a flash of iridescent lightning — the intelligence of all of being within it — and, an instant later…

a solitary sperm pierced an egg in our mother’s womb.
