The ‘language of birds’ (both the actual and the alchemical allusion) is deeply related to the ur-languages of the direct soul-to-soul communication that comprise the ‘flowing way’. This is the ‘universal language’ that was storied to have been lost just prior to ‘The Babel Incident’.

The history of our minds and consciousness comprise a most incredible ladder or riddles, each of which leads to treasures beyond all mortal estimation or awareness… and the history of language is one of the most rewarding and fascinating of the branches of this riddle.

This ecstatic mode was our first way, and was replaced, slowly but aggressively, by domineering habits of formal structure and representation. Yet, within us, we all still have and use the ur-language, and once it is awakened in us, it becomes electrical, contagious, magnetic, and, frankly… unstoppable.

In a world as representationally imprisoned as our own, this ur-language is a ‘holy’ power that is recognized instantly by all beings, and, indeed, by matter itself. I think it may well be the living basis of our minds and what I speak of here has nothing to do with books or religions, and everything to do with my own direct experience of self, other, nature, dreaming, and the sources of life and awareness.
