Cognitive Activism Warning: The following material is research material, and is not meant to imply universal value judgements or incite despair, hopelessness, or confusion. In order to understand and respond intelligently to phenomenon that are now considered ‘ordinary’, we have to look very carefully at the processes and contexts that produce them.

Yesterday, while engaged in psycholinguistic research, I carefully observed a group of white males assassinating wildlife with high technology weapons. The men had learned to expertly mimic a variety of animal sounds, especially including those of a member of a coyote pack in distress.
I was there, primarily, to observe their linguistic behavior during their chosen situation and actions.
This was, to them, a form of comedy. Literally. The found it absolutely hilarious how the animals responding to urgent calls of survival distress… simply exploded when they shot them with weapons capable of penetrating metal armor.
One of them had a tracking-weapon that produces a high-caliber impact flare which actually follows a moving target once locked. He attracted a coyote and shot it in the head, and the entire group erupted into uproarious laughter as the stricken animal convulsed agonically and expired.
I have witnessed this kind of behavior since childhood. I no longer find it puzzling, or even really confusing. I understand almost precisely how it is instantiated, nurtured, celebrated, and even ‘what it is that they think is so hilarious.’ I am also aware of powerful ways we in which we could easily end this behavior at its sources. Forever.
I cannot detail such information here as a small essay would be required. It is, however, obvious to any casual observer that this behavior is not only inhuman, it is fundamentally and actively omnicidal. And part of the reason it is absolutely wrong is this: it changes what it means to be a human being on a living world … for »everyone, because nature… learns and remembers and responds… to us. There is no way to ‘hide’ human activity. The entire planet is a living witness of absolute verity and perfect memory. We call this organism.
I will, however, offer two closing comments. In reflecting upon this situation this morning, I realized that there might be one caveat under which I would consider allowing humans to ‘sport kill’ other beings, ecologies, cities, and so on. This would simply be that anyone engaged in sport killing volunteers themselves to be hunted, at any time, in any place, including while they sleep, by any persons who find sport-killing to be an act that violates the spirit of humanity and intelligence.
So if they were willing to be hunted by any humans that cared to pursue them, in any way those humans cared to hunt them, I would consider that at least moderately balanced in terms of reason; not relation or reality, but reason.
The second thing I noticed was this: not enough humans are being killed. I know it sounds bizarre, but the thing is that most of the humans that the humans are killing, are the wrong humans to kill. In nature, animals are killed all the time. But not according to some system or who has the gun. According to balance. So the problem is this: we are killing humans all over the place, all day, every day. For all the wrong reasons, and, mostly, the humans that ‘get selected’ are almost always the wrong victims. The humans that have earned death are not women, children, fathers, grandparents and villagers.
They are those that start and profit from, extend and demand war. Those are the humans that should be put to death if they insist on the continuation of the business of for-profit-or-power omnicide. And frankly, it should be open season on those humans, all day, every day. No penalties. If we rewarded their outing and assassination in public, we could both assuage whatever apparent bloodlust our species may or may not possess, and divest us of the sources that instigate it ‘for sport and domination.’
The wrong beings are being killed. We should hunt the assassins. 12 ways to Sunday. And as every good journalist knows… it doesn’t take bullets to bring down an authorized rapist or murderer masquerading as a hero.
It just requires a little public intelligence.
