One does not ‘possess’ any form of self. There is no such thing as having a mind. No such thing as seeing. What one has, is purposes. Or, perhaps, one closer to life has purposiveness. A purpose is akin to an object or derivative. It is like a tool, that we become.

So when we look, first we have a purpose. This invents the eyes we see with. And when we move or still the mind, it is the same. We do not have a mind at all. We invent minds for purposes. These involve seeing, but not vision. Purposes that become eyes. In the past or the future.

So purposes invent specific modes of eyes or minds. The more explicit or literal the purpose, the more limited these eyes or minds that we then become by enacting them. But before we are selves, or minds, or seeing… we should observe our relationship with purposes.

Purposes are, in a sense, the key to all that may be desired. But as they are usually invisible to those beguiled or compelled by them, we are, like horses or machines, ‘driven’ by them most of the time without our compliant or volitional awareness of this. Anyone who begins to develop the awareness of the process of purposive negotiation that precedes thought, seeing or action will discover the source of all ways of seeing and skill. This is a living source.

‘People’ are not static, regardless of appearances. Nor are their minds or what they may see or be blind to. All orientations transform continuously in relation and in isolation, even though some form patterns that iterate, no iteration is ever precisely repeated. Identity is not static as presented in language, logic or concept. Our experiences of mind, seeing, understanding, learning and extasis are prefigured or circumscribed by purposes and purposive frameworks. Nearly all of these are limiting fictions.

Whatever liberty or intelligence may be or become for us as human beings, we may truthfully observe that the key lies in our relationships with purpose. For it is purpose that orients and disorients, becomes or denies intelligence, expresses or counterfeits our basis as organisms and human beings. One does not move or formulate mind but first one is following purposes.

I cannot say what purpose moves my hand at this moment, except perhaps to remember and reactivate the place before seeing, thinking or acting begins. Together. To re-enter the place where we can see how purposes prefigure or simply supply the results of what becomes the opposite of seeing, knowing, thinking or being. Yet, with a way of selecting purposive relations that are intelligent and true, we may at once escape this trap and gain, instead… a treasure unimagined by moderns, and undeliverable by science, religion or technology.

Perhaps it is my dream that we can become this way that moves my hands to touch distant minds, and arrange a kind of reunion… that doesn’t happen in the invitation, but in the imagination, where a living light we’ve long forgotten originates, and then is shaped to purposes… which become ways of seeing or blindness, thought or delusion, being or … belligerence.
